A new dwelling and with a garden sanctuary for a client with limited mobility. The layout, orientation and window positioning aims to provide calming splashes of green from every room of the house.
The site orientation and generous rear yard informed the decision to use an L-shaped floor layout that positions the key spaces towards the North-West. This allows the house to capture all-day sun, shield from the wind and provide privacy from neighbouring properties.
The house faces out onto a lush courtyard garden with views of the landscaping through every window in the house. The living room and master bedroom are considered the key spaces of the house and are generously sized and positioned to maximise sunlight. High level glazing provides all-day sunlight to these rooms, while smaller long windows at eye level create a sense of enclosure, safety and privacy.

The mono-pitched roof allows for high level glazing to provide all-day sunlight and keep construction complexity to a minimum. Natural cladding and decking materials reinforce the concept of a connection with nature.
Smaller long windows at eye level create a sense of enclosure, safety and privacy. The bathroom is sized to accommodate wheelchair access and includes a laundry cupboard and large level entry shower. The secondary bedroom is smaller but still large enough to fit a queen size bed for when a carer or guests stay. A floor area of 65m2 has been achieved.
